I estimate half of the members of our societies are pure Pawns who have no recognizable authority outside their households. The other half include individuals who are authorized, in varying degrees, to manipulate; politicians, media, professionals, churches, businesses, teachers, the list goes on. The Pawns are always manipulated. The Manipulators are, themselves, manipulated but they have accepted the trade-offs as they adapted to their circumstances. In democracies, the voters can get fed up with the current crop of political manipulators and replace them with a new set. These are not much different that the ones we just pushed out. It’s more like a new coat of paint over the cancerous cores.
The pawns are the cohort who can change our systems. Let’s find the ways.
